Your Path To Healthy Skin

Updated: Aug 21, 2018

Wondering how certain people have flawless looking skin? Aside from favourable genetics, having good skincare habits at home plays a big role in achieving a clear complexion. When it’s blotchy or if you experience frequent breakouts, it can take a serious toll or your self-confidence (and even your social life). But you should never feel trapped within your own skin. By improving your everyday home care habits and your diet, you can eradicate a lot of the underlying issues that irritate your skin in the first place. Here are some tips to guide you on your path to healthy skin.

Improve Your Diet

Our skin is a significant reflection of what goes into our body. If you’re consuming an unhealthy diet with plenty of greasy, deep-fried foods, you can expect to pay the consequences in many ways, including those pesky, unsightly breakouts. Improving your diet is the first step to improving your skin. That means reducing (or eliminating) unhealthy items and substituting them with whole foods, along with fruits and veggies. Consuming healthy fats like avocado, walnuts, and coconut oil, have also been proven to significantly help nourish both our skin and hair, so make sure you're including a moderate dose of these each day. Healthy foods such as these provide the vitamins and nutrients that our body needs to produce healthy looking skin.

Increase Your Intake of Water

You’ve heard it before and you’ll hear it again – hydration is essential for obtaining firm, clear and supple looking skin. Water helps flush out toxics and keeps your skin cells functioning properly. Without enough water, your skin can quickly dry up making it more prone to wrinkles and blemishes. Try to focus on improving your intake of water every day. Rather than picking up that soda or energy drink, give your body a dose of water instead so you can get in those 8 glasses per day. By doing this step alone, you will see a dramatic improvement in your complexion over the course of even a few days.

Limit Sun Exposure

Protecting your skin from the sun cannot be overstated. Increased exposure to the sun rays and UV radiation not only increases your chances of getting skin cancer by up to 50%, but it also dramatically increases the development of sun spots, wrinkles, and an overall rough-looking texture. If you’re planning on being out in the sun, always wear sunscreen with at least factor 30 SPF, and wear appropriate gear such as a hat.

Maintain A Regular Skin Care Regime

Our skin is constantly exposed to the elements and stresses of everyday life. That includes air pollution, sun exposure and harsh weather. Having a regular skincare regime each day is important to help counteract those damaging factors. Cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing the skin can help alleviate some of those harsh effects and ease the aging process. For more extreme repair, advanced skin care treatments can also help to rectify damage to the skin.

So if you’re feeling frustrated with your skin, take a look at your daily habits. If you're not washing your face twice per day and applying moisturized each morning and night, it's time to start. We also recommend seeing a skincare specialist to understand what your specific skin type is and what products will work best for you.

Consuming a healthy, balanced diet, improving your hydration, and following a good skincare routine each morning and night certainly aren't shocking answers when it comes to gaining a clearer, firmer looking complexion. But you'd be surprised to know just how many people suffer from embarrassing breakouts and blemishes, and who understand these fundamental habits but still don't act on them. So if your skin problems have been making you feel embarrassed or discouraged about your appearance, make a commitment to yourself to change! Start today by making these three habits a part of your daily routine. We guarantee that you won't regret it!
