5 Tips to Create the Ideal Home Office Space

Updated: Jun 6, 2018

The layout and design of your home office is important for inspiring new ideas and allowing you to get down to business and get your work done, effectively. Whether you work from home full-time, part-time, or if it's the spot where your creativity comes to life, if all you have to look forward to is a desk shoved into a messy corner, it’s never going to inspire you to really be as efficient, creative or focused as you want or need to be. To help you rethink and revamp your current space, here are 5 tips to create the ideal home office space.

Find A Better Location

We all know that location matters when it comes to an actual office. Having appropriate lighting and a suitable environment to get your work done is crucial. And, of course, the same thing goes for your home office space. If your work desk at home is stuffed into a corner in the middle of your living room, right smack in the middle of all the household action, well, it’s not hard to imagine how difficult it would be to actually get work done. So spend some quality time assessing your home to figure out what type of environment you need to thrive in and try to carve it out as best you can.

Think About Functionality

Your workflow really depends on having adequate functionality with your layout and design. So always take time to really think about what makes the most sense before creating the ideal home office space. Think about the size of the desk that you'll need, the location of shelving, filing system, and size of computer screen (maybe two) and so on. You need to take the design of your home office seriously if you ever expect to get down to some serious business at home.

Don’t Skimp On The Chair

Your office chair is where you’ll be for a good portion of the day. So don’t skimp on this purchase. It may seem unreasonable to splurge on a pricey chair, but once you’ve been planted in it for long enough, you will be very glad that you made the investment. When your bum and back are comfy and pain-free, it’ll be worth every dime!

Paint The Walls A Bright Colour You Enjoy

If you do work full-time at home, remember that you will be spending a significant amount of time there. It can be hard enough to stay focused and force yourself into the work zone, so every little bit counts in your design, and that includes the colour that you paint on the walls. You want to feel great when you walk in and sit down at home to start off your workday. So choose a bright, cheery and uplifting colour that makes you feel good.

Add Some Inspiring Touches

When you’re hard at work, it always helps to have some inspiring knick-knacks, art pieces, or photos around you when you look up and need to remember why you’re working so hard. Make your home office space a place that motivates you to push through those aggravating days and inspire you to gear up, focus and get back to it.

Creating the ideal home office space requires some careful thought, especially if you plan on working from it full-time. So always remember to make it a space that you can enjoy sitting down in. Make it functional, make it comfortable and make it motivate you to get down to business.
